The wooden hilt with new mother-of-pearl cover ends with a brass lion's head with vignettes on the neck. The brass quillons are hooked in opposite directions. In the centre a catrouche with the Austrian coat of arms and Golden Fleece edges. The blade is steel, single-edged and with a fuller. On the front an etched decoration of arms trophies, Baroque vignettes and palmettes. The leather scabbard has fitments with ornaments and two rings for attaching to a belt.
The sabre had belonged to lawyer Stjepan Gmaz, chairman of the High Court in Zagreb. Bought from M. Schotten in 1901.
