Turkish shield

    Rods, thread, metal, knitting, casting
    diameter 60 cm


    Made of willow rods, stitched by thread and decorated by a coloured pattern. In some places smaller metal rosettes are fixed. The metal central part of the shield is of a later make. At the back of the shield there are four rings through which a knitted leather belt is attached. At the edge rings with linen straps, one of which is broken. In the lower concentric circle the inscription 'Alah' is repeated four times, facing the four sides of the world.

    Found in Bosnia, Donji Vakuf. Donated by lieutenant A. Panian in 1878.
