Schiavona sword

    The wooden handle is wrapped in rope and fish skin. The pommel is made of brass, 'cat-like', with a larger rosette in the middle. The ring-guard is of a basket type, grooved. The ring-guard claw is turned to the front. The blade is double-edged, with a short, narrow funnel in the middle. On both sides of the blade, at the edge of the funnel, a hallmark in the shape of a flower. The scabbard is wooden, wrapped in skin, reinforced by metal on the edges.

    Schiavona is a type of sword worn by the personal guard of the Doge of Venice. Members of the guard were recruited from Dalmatia.
