Brass, forged, with brown patina, silk rips

Emperor Napoleon III founded the medal in 1857 in memory of the soldiers who had fought under the French flag from 1792 to 1815.
The edge of the medal is shaped as a wreath. A crown is placed on top of the medal. The sash is green with five red strips and a red edging. Obverse: in the central medallion the head of the French Emperor Napoleon I, in right profile. The inscription to the left and right of the head reads: NAPOLEON I / EMPEREUR. Reverse: the inscription in the centre: A / SES / COMPAGNONS / DE GLOIRE / SA DERNIERE / PENSEE / Ste HELENE / 5. MAI / 1821. Another inscription surrounding it reads: A / SES / COMPAGNONS / DE GLOIRE / SA DERNIERE / PENSEE / Ste HELENE / 5. MAI / 1821.
The medal was awarded to Mijo Sabljar in 1858 by Emperor Napoleon III, because he had from 1810 to 1815 served under the French flag in the 6th Croatian Hunting Regiment. Donated to the Museum by Mijo Sabljar.
