    The Medal for Gallantry was founded by Emperor Joseph II in 1789 as a decoration for junior officers and soldiers who had shown outstanding bravery in the field.

    Obverse: the Emperor Francis II' head in right profile, crowned with a laurel wreath. Inscription above the head: FRANZ II. The signature is on the bottom. Reverse: inscription placed in two rows in the middle: DER / TAPFERKEIT, surrounded by a laurel wreath with six regimental flags. The medal has a broad eyelet through which a ribbon is drawn.

    The medal was awarded to first lieutenant Marijan Vidakovic, and donated to the Museum by Mato Klaric from Vinkovci in 1880.
