    picture-1

    Osredek, Samobor
    around 1880
    Glass
length 38 cm, barrel diameter 3.5 cm

A welcome cup shaped as an old-fashioned pistol (flintlock pistol) from opaque glass in elongated surfaces of ground glass. On the left it has three rosettes, and the button of the handle is shaped as a grooved bulb. The cock is dragon-shaped, while a part of the trigger is missing.

Bought at the 'Posrednik' store in Zagreb in 1979.

    M. Despot, Umjetno obrtna proizvodnja Hrvatske na izlozbi u Trstu 1882.g., Zbornik V, Muzej primenjene umetnosti, Beograd, 1961.

Hosts offered cups like these to their dearest guests who came to their houses on special occasions. While drinking wine from it, near the end, behind the narrow neck, a vacuum is formed, thus 'shooting' wine at the drinker.
