Wood, brass
box length 22.7 cm, width 11.2 cm, height 3.8 cm
The wooden box with a lid holds 10 weights (six of them are missing) for measuring the weight of European gold and silver coins, a set of weights for inlaying and a straight-beam balance. The weights were taken from the Cologne goldsmiths' system. In a recess of the box small weights and beads used as makeweights are situated. These weights belong to the decimal measuring system and are not a part of this set. Eight brass weights shaped as a truncated cone, of different shapes, weights and markings were used for weighing silver coins.
