Cardboard, coloured copperplate engraving
8.3 x 5.4 cm, 52 cards
Whist cards; the four aces are decorated with four views of Krapina/Kalnik, Bosiljevo/Okic, Medvedgrad and Sestine/Jurjaves and the National Hall/Bishop's Palace. The figure cards are very similar to the well-known tarot cards of the Zagreb National Hall, but nevertheless differ in some details, the most outstanding of them being the absence of symbols of the Illyrian movement on the jack-of-diamonds. On that card the Illyrian star and half-moon together with the motto 'Sloga od Boga' are replaced by an inscription: IZDATE PO JOSIPU BACKU / U ZAGREBU. The cards are unused, and were donated to the Museum together with fairly well preserved wrapping paper, carrying the inscription: DVORANE / ZAGREBACKE / osobito fine / KARTE ZA WHIST / NAPRAVLJENE / i izdate po / JOS. BAECKU / u / ZAGREBU / No. 36, accompanied by an image of a girl crowning with a laurel wreath the Illyrian coat-of-arms situated above the coats-of-arms of Slavonia, Croatia and Dalmatia.
Nada Kocian from Zagreb donated the cards to the Museum in 1990.
