hamlet of Erdelj near Generalski Stol
15th century
Limestone, carved;
58 x 70 x 37 cm
The massive stone slab is missing its right-hand corner, the figure shows a rider on a horse, turned to the left, that is modelled in archaic fashion. The horse's figure is more plastic than that of the rider. The place where the slab was found, the motif of the horseman, and the way the figural elements are made, all point to it being a gravestone (stecak). The slab was used as a doorstep in front of the house door of the Laus family, Erdelj 127. Some information points to the possibility that the gravestone was brought to Erdelj from the Crkvisce site, north of Generalski Stol.
Donated by parish priest Gabrijel from Generalski Stol.
