Statue of St Rochus

    picture-1

    17th century
    Sandy limestone, carved
    height 78 cm

The plastically modelled figure of St Rochus has unfortunately not been completely preserved. The left hand, parts of figure's shins and feet, as well as the head are missing. (The Croatian History Museum holds in its documentation photographs taken at the Cultural and Historical Exhibition presented to mark the thousandth anniversary of the Croatian kingdom. One of the photographs shows the statue of St Rochus with its head preserved.) The saint is dressed in pilgrim's garments. He has a shell hanging on each side of a round collar, and a hat at his back. A gourd is hanging on his left hip, and with his right hand he is lifting his garments to show a wound on his leg.

Donated to the Museum around 1920.
